One on one conversations are available

Due to lack of attendance, we are no longer hosting regular public meetings. Please contact a group leader if you'd like a personal conversation for autism information or support. If the person you contact first can't assist you, she will help you figure out who to call next, so please give one of our experienced autism parents or educators a call or email. 

Winter and spring autism conversation nights

Coffee Shop Meetings are held Sunday evenings at the Starbucks/cafe area of Martin's Supermarket,1527 Bashor Rd, Goshen, IN, 7:00 p.m. One or more of the advisory board members will be there to host a conversation. If you are arriving late, contact the meeting host, because she will plan to leave by 7:30 if no one shows up. It's not a bad idea to contact the host in any case to tell her you are coming.

Summer and fall conversation nights

We are offering one Sunday night a month for a coffee shop conversation night. These are informal conversations based on the interests of those who attend. 

Coffee Shop Meetings are held Sunday evenings at the Starbucks/cafe area of Martin's Supermarket,1527 Bashor Rd, Goshen, IN, 7:00 p.m. One or more of the advisory board members will be there to lead a conversation. If you are arriving late, contact the meeting host, because she will plan to leave by 7:30 if no one shows up. It's not a bad idea to contact the host in any case to tell her you are coming.

Monday night meetings at the church have been discontinued due to low attendance.

Improving Communication between Parents and School

Our next meeting will be September 14, 2015 on "Improving Communication Between Parents and the School"  
Brian Wilkins will be speaking,  Autism Consultant with Goshen Community Schools.  

There will be an informal/open conversation night for group members on June 14, 2015 at 7pm-8pm at the Martins Starbucks (1527 Bashor Rd, Goshen, IN 46528).  

The advisory board will meet for 1/2 hour before this conversation night to finalize the schedule for next year.

Encouraging Independence

Janeen Bertsche Johnson will provide input and lead discussion about ways to encourage and support independence for people on the spectrum of all ages. Janeen is chair of the Advisory Board for Asperger Autism Group of Goshen and has been active in the group since 2007.

Observations about Asperger Syndrome after a Lifetime of Working

Robert Guth lives with Asperger Syndrome and has two adult children on the autism spectrum. He has been employed as an actuary at Everence since 1987. Prior to that he worked as a college professor and owned a tax preparation, bookkeeping,  and ecological consulting business. He has been married to Christine Guth for the past 32 years. He will talk about how his perspectives have changed over the years.

Topic: The Arts: Opportunities for Enriching our Lives
The Arts: Opportunities for Enriching Our Lives"" is the topic of the next meeting of Asperger Autism Group of Goshen. The meeting will be Monday, February 2, 7-8:30 p.m. at Eighth Street Mennonite Church, 602 South Eighth Street, Goshen. 

We will hear from representatives from organizations, programs, and teachers who provide opportunities for persons on the autism spectrum to participate in a wide range of artistic endeavors: music, theater, visual arts, and more. Roma Osterloo, Autism Coordinator for Elkhart Community Schools and member of Asperger Autism Group of Goshen Advisory Board, will facilitate the meeting. Roma will share information on Premier Arts (drama) and how acting classes can help with voice intonation and body language.  Confirmed representatives include Shana Dines from Elkhart Art League, and Christine Way, who teaches piano.
